NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000®
Gone
are the days when only the boats with America's Cup budgets have
sophisticated sailing instrumentation. Avia Sail offers this functionality
to the everyday sailor. Avia Sail connects to onboard instruments
or sensors and gives you the displays and instrumentation not
previously available. (For the power boater, Avia Power will be
available in December 2010.)
A
set of physical marine instruments with similar capabilities (displays
only) would cost $2000 to $3000. Avia Sail runs well using a $300
netbook computer or any Windows XP or newer PC. We recommend Windows
7.
Consider
for example the real-time current calculator which shows you second
by second the strength and direction of the current.
Or,
the Wind/Polar display that lets you sail your boat to the predicted
target speeds specific to the heading, wind speed and sail combination.
Avia
Lite or Pro?
Avia
Sail is available in a Lite version and a Pro version.
The
Lite version includes a single simplified dashboard and is quick
to configure.
The
Pro version includes more advanced instruments (such as the real-time
polar), customizable dashboard layouts, network connectivity to
multiple displays, and instrumentation overlay with
Fugawi
Marine ENC or other third party navigation software products.
Avia Sail Pro instruments can be configured to 'float' on
your navigation software window, so you can configure a dashboard
that exactly meets your needs. The Pro versions will also output
NMEA 0183 data (up to 2 com ports), or via WiFi for connectivity
with the compatible iNavX
marine navigation application for iPhone or iPad.
Avia
Sail Pro is the perfect addition to enhance your charting application.
Network Enabled
Avia
Sail Pro is a network-enabled application allowing you to have
multiple displays, so you can have your instruments shown at the
navigation station and at the helm or even at multiple screens
for the helmsman wanting to see a wide selection of instruments.
Connects
to iNavX for iPhone, iPad
Avia
Sail Pro includes a TCP/IP server to send NMEA 0183 data via WiFi
to the iNavX
App for iPhone and iPad. Now you can see many of the Avia Sail
instruments directly in iNavX.
